Congresswoman Nikema Williams has represented Georgia’s 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2021 (117th Congress-Present). Williams was elected as the Freshman Class President for the 117th Congress. She sits on the Financial Services Committee, where she is a member of the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight and the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance. Before Congress, Williams served in the Georgia State Senate. In 2019, she was elected chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, the first Black woman to serve in the role. Williams has focused on several legislative issues, including voting rights, reproductive justice, social justice, economic justice, and healthcare. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Talladega College.
