Congresswoman Marica Fudge represented Ohio’s 11th District Congressional District from 2008 to 2021 (110th-116th Congresses). She was elected to the seat in a special election to fill a vacancy caused by the death of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones. Before her tenure in Congress, Fudge worked as a lawyer and as director of Budget and Finance in the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office. She was the first woman and first African American to serve as mayor of the City of Warrensville Heights, Ohio. In Congress, Fudge served on the Committee on Agriculture, where she was the chair of the Subcommittee on Nutrition, Oversight, and Department Operations. She also served on the Committee on Education and Labor, the Committee on House Administration, where she was the chair of the Subcommittee on Elections, and as the ranking member on the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education. Fudge resigned from the House after her confirmation by the Senate as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Biden Administration. Fudge is also a past national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Ohio State University and a Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University.
