Kamala Harris represented California in the U.S. Senate from 2017 until January 18, 2021 (115th-117th Congresses) when she resigned to become Vice President of the United States during the Biden Administration. Before serving in Congress, Harris was California’s attorney general from 2011 to 2016. She also served as deputy district attorney for Alameda County; managing attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office; chief of the San Francisco City Attorney’s Division on Children and Families; and district attorney of San Francisco. Harris earned her undergraduate degree from Howard University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
