Emilia Strong Sykes

Congresswoman Emilia Strong Sykes represents Ohio’s 13th Congressional District in the 118th U.S. House of Representatives (January 3, 2023-Present) and is the first Black person elected to represent the district in Congress. Before Congress, Sykes served as the State Representative in the Ohio House of Representatives. She was the minority leader. Sykes graduated from Kent State University and received a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and a Master of Public Health from the College of Public Health and Health Professions.
