Congressman Dwight Evans has represented Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2016 (114th Congress-Present) when he was elected to both the 114th and 115th Congresses in a special election. In Congress, Evans serves on the House Ways and Means Committee where he is a member of the Subcommittee on Health and the Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support. He is also a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. In his first term, one of his bills designed to reduce costs for small business owners who apply for a loan through the Small Business Administration passed into law. Throughout his tenure, Evans has fought to improve health care, reduce health disparities, and advocate for gun reform, criminal justice reform, and economic development, including supporting small businesses. Before his tenure in Congress, Evans served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for 36 years, making history as the first African American chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, a post he held for two decades. He is a graduate of the Community College of Philadelphia and LaSalle University.
