Alonzo Jacob Ransier
(1834-1882)
South Carolina
Republican
Representative
43rd Congress (1873-1875)
Congressman Alonzo Ransier represented South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1873 to 1875 (43rd Congress). He served on the Manufactures Committee. Although an outspoken advocate for the passage of the 1875 Civil Rights Act, he abstained from voting on the bill because it failed to address the segregation of public schools.
