Congresswoman Alma Adams has represented the 12th Congressional District of North Carolina since 2014 (113th Congress-Present). After winning a special election, Adams was sworn in as the 100th woman elected to the 113th Congress. Adams currently serves on the Committee on Education & the Workforce and the Committee on Agriculture. She serves on the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development and is ranking member on the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections. Additionally, Adams serves on the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition, Foreign Agriculture and Horticulture and the Subcommittee on Farm Commodities, Risk Management and Credit. One of Adam’s outstanding legislative accomplishments in Congress is the enactment of H.R. 5363, the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act, which permanently provides funding totaling $255 million a year for all Minority-Serving Institutions, including $85 million for HBCUs. Before Congress, Adams served in the North Carolina General Assembly and the Greensboro City Council. Adams earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Carolina A&T State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Art Education and Multicultural Education from The Ohio State University.
