Congressman Al Green has represented Texas’ 9th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2005 (109th Congress-Present). Before Congress, Green practiced law, was president of the Houston Branch of the NAACP, and served as Justice of the Peace in Harris County, Texas for 26 years. Green serves on the Financial Services Committee where he is a member of the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance and the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. Throughout his career, Green has focused on the same issues he worked on at the Houston NAACP: fair housing and fair hiring practices for the poor and minorities. Green attended Florida A&M University and Tuskegee University and received a Juris Doctor degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.
