Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney represented Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003 (103rd-107th Congresses) and again during the 109th Congress (2005-2007). She was the first African American woman to serve in the House from Georgia. Her committee assignments included the Banking and Financial Services, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs, International Relations, National Security, Armed Forces, and Budget committees. McKinney has been an outspoken advocate for human rights, voting rights, and government accountability. Before her tenure in Congress, McKinney was a member of the Georgia State Legislature. She has also been a fellow and faculty member at several universities. In 2008, McKinney ran as a Green Party candidate for election for President of the United States. McKinney received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
